1200 x 600 Cast Iron Radiators

Searching for a 1200 x 600 radiator? Cast iron radiators work differently to the fixed-size steel panel radiators those dimensions usually describe. The good news is that the same wall coverage and output is achievable. You just specify it differently.

How cast iron radiator sizing works

Steel panel radiators come in fixed manufactured sizes: 1200mm wide by 600mm tall is one of the most common. Cast iron sectional radiators don't. Height is set by the model you choose. Width is configurable: you specify the number of sections and we build to that width.

So a 1200 x 600 cast iron radiator is built by choosing a model close to 600mm in height and specifying enough sections to cover around 1200mm of wall width. The result gives you the same approximate footprint as a standard 1200 x 600 steel panel, with cast iron heat retention underneath.

Our stated heights are measured to the top of the radiator including the feet. If you're picturing 600mm as the visible height once it's fitted, and the radiator will sit around 150mm up from the floor on its feet, you'll likely want a model closer to 750mm to get that same 600mm look on the wall. Our radiators can also be wall mounted rather than free standing on their feet, which is worth considering if floor clearance is the reason you're working to 600mm in the first place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is a 1200 x 600 cast iron radiator available?
+
Cast iron radiators are not manufactured in fixed sizes like a 1200 x 600 steel panel. Height is set by the model, width is configurable by section count. The Montpellier at 590mm is the closest height to 600mm. Call us with your wall dimensions and we'll spec the section count to cover approximately 1200mm width.
Is a 1200 x 600 single radiator equivalent available in cast iron?
+
Yes, the equivalent of a 1200 x 600 single panel radiator is achievable in cast iron by choosing a 2 or 3-column model at close to 600mm height and specifying enough sections to cover 1200mm of wall. The Montpellier at 590mm or Victoriana 3 Column at 645mm are the closest height matches.
Is a 600 x 1200 double radiator equivalent available in cast iron?
+
The equivalent of a 600 x 1200 double panel in terms of output is achievable in cast iron by choosing a 4 or 6-column model at close to 600mm height and specifying the right section count. A Neo Georgian 4 Column at 660mm gives substantially more output per section than a 2 or 3-column model, matching the output step-up a double panel gives over a single.
How many sections do I need to cover 1200mm?
+
Section width varies by model, typically running at around 60mm to 75mm per section. As a guide, covering 1200mm of wall width usually requires between 16 and 20 sections depending on the model you choose. Call us with your exact wall space and we'll confirm the precise section count.
Can I get a 1200 x 600 cast iron radiator in any colour?
+
Yes, any equivalent cast iron radiator at approximately these dimensions is available in any colour - standard Paladin palette; Farrow & Ball and Little Greene shades; Custom colour match from any paint sample or RAL code.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are Art Nouveau cast iron radiators available in the UK?
+
Art Nouveau style cast iron radiators are available in the UK. The Montpellier originates from France in the late 1890s at the height of the Art Nouveau movement and is cast at our dedicated foundry, then hand-assembled at our Lincolnshire factory. It ships nationwide with a 10-year guarantee.
Are vintage Art Nouveau cast iron radiators available?
+
Genuine vintage Art Nouveau cast iron radiators from the period (approximately 1890 to 1910) are available through architectural salvage dealers but typically need significant refurbishment before use. The Paladin Montpellier gives you the same period decorative character, built new in the UK with a 10-year guarantee and no restoration costs.
Are old school cast iron radiators still made?
+
Yes, old school style cast iron radiators are still made. Paladin casts ornate period-style models at our dedicated foundry and hand-assembles them at our Lincolnshire factory, recreating the decorative cast iron character of the school and civic building radiators of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Montpellier and Oxford are the closest equivalents in our range.
Are original cast iron radiators better than new Art Nouveau style ones?
+
Original Art Nouveau cast iron radiators have period authenticity, but typically require pressure testing, internal cleaning and full repainting before installation. New Art Nouveau style cast iron radiators from Paladin give the same decorative character with modern build quality, a 10-year guarantee and the finish applied fresh at our UK factory.
Is painting old cast iron radiators a good idea?
+
Yes, repainting old cast iron radiators is a sensible way to restore them if the structure is sound and pressure-tested. Strip to a sound surface, apply appropriate primer and use a quality radiator enamel or finish. Call us on 01205 280354 for advice on paint specification. If the radiator needs full restoration, we can also advise on whether a new equivalent is more practical.
Are contemporary cast iron radiators available alongside Art Nouveau models?
+
Paladin offers both contemporary and Art Nouveau style cast iron radiators. The Montpellier and Oxford suit period and ornate interiors. The Neo Georgian and Pimlico suit contemporary and minimalist interiors. The full range covers cast iron from Art Nouveau-era florals to clean modern column lines within the same product family.
