How Paladin Radiators Complemented a Stunning Surrey Renovation

Here at Paladin Radiators, we truly believe that our incredible products are the perfect complement to any home, but working with interior designer Ana Engelhorn on a personal project designed to showcase her abilities and aesthetic style was a brilliant endeavour to be involved with.

Ana, who is an Associate of the Society of British and International Design (SBID) bought a Grade II listed property close to Guildford and Woking and wanted to work her magic to showcase to clients just what visions she can bring to life with her work.

Taking the majority of 2022 to complete this ambitious project, Ana wanted to use it as a test bed for suppliers and a blank canvas for future projects. With an authentic core from around the 17th Century, the house had undergone a huge amount of renovation, more than five clear updates had meant that there were spaces that were simply not being used.

The main house, cottage and pool house covered 5,700 square feet. The grounds, redolent of a quintessential English country garden, comprise wide stretches of lawn dotted with mature trees, manicured hedges, a kitchen garden, pond, field and children’s play area. There is also a tennis court, swimming pool and sauna.

With a 17th century core and an 18th century front elevation, which was restored in 1907, the house had undergone various extensions over the last 75 years. So, in addition to some structural changes, and creating a fresh, perfectly imperfect interior design incorporating the client’s existing furniture and artwork, the house needed a complete mechanical and electrical upgrade.

Over 2022, Ana and her team of suppliers and contractors opened up and extended the usable space, taking the small space that a family that had lived there for around 25 years and extending it to be a large, welcoming family home.

As well as installing Paladin Radiators, using 33 of our Shaftsbury model throughout the home, to ensure cost-effective heating and a long-lasting heating solution, Ana also selected our radiators for their classic aesthetic appeal.

Ana adds: “I wanted to use as many natural building materials as possible. As well as making the most of the building’s natural fabric as features, such as uncovering an original floor, I wanted to use wood, bricks and metal as a base and Paladin’s range of radiators offered a level of craftsmanship that suited the mixture of old and new I was aiming for with this project.

“The radiators are a piece of art in themselves and they are not a product you cover up, rather they complete and add to a room. They are functional but also beautiful.”

Ana was also taken with our levels of service, explaining: “Paladin Radiators’ service is amazing and I really got what I needed. Their team provided very clear instructions for every step of what could have been a very complex installation. The service and the radiators spoke for themselves. I would recommend them to anyone embarking on a similar project.”

Sales Manager at Paladin Radiators, Jon Walker, added: “We were so excited to work with Ana on such a vast and ambitious project. To see our radiators sitting amongst a considered and elegant refurbishment such as this with bold colours, sympathetic features and a complete vision come to life is really exciting.

“We’re so pleased that our cast iron style really appealed to Ana’s hopes for this project and that they fit in so well.”
