5 Tips That Can Save You Up To £330 Pounds This January

It’s that time of year again where the chill has set in and we all reluctantly turn our heating on, with the knowledge we will be hit with a huge bill the following month.

Looking to save some cash yourself? Here are 5 invaluable tips to make your heating go further. Find out below how you can save up to £330 this January.

1. Draught-proof your home

“Letting heat escape from your home is detrimental to your heating bill. Around 18% of a home’s heat escapes through windows, and 3% through doors.

“Professional draught excluding is of course an option, but if you’re looking for a cost effective solution, we suggest using draught proofing strips for your windows and doors. This can improve the warmth of your home and save you up to £45 a year on heating, whilst draught proofing your chimney could save you £65 a year.”

Total saving: £110

2. Check your radiators controls

“A mistake I see time and time again is people not checking their thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs). Attached to one of the pipes that goes into your radiator, these can adjust the warmth of each individual radiator. Try setting a lower temperature for rooms you spend less time in to save energy.

Alongside using your TRV, we recommend using a thermostat for setting your home temperature and a timer that sets when your heating turns on and off. Warming where you want, when you want in your home could save you up to £120 a year.”

3. Bleed your radiators

“For an optimised heating system and to save money, bleeding your radiators is an important piece of household maintenance.

You will find that air becomes trapped in your radiator from time to time, meaning the heating system won’t be circulating heat as effectively. Bleeding your radiator means this air escapes and your radiator will work efficiently again.

We recommend that you bleed your radiators once a year as good practice.”

4. Upgrade your boiler

“Older boilers are unfortunately less efficient than newer models. Although costs to replace your boiler vary and will be an initial investment, the improved efficiency could save you up to £140 a year.

If your boiler is already modern, we recommend getting it serviced at least once a year.”

Total saving: £140

5. Control your thermostats

“It’s common sense that the hotter you heat your home, the more you will pay. It’s estimated for every degree you turn the temperature up, your heating bill increases by around 10%. You could save up to £145 a year by turning it down 1 degree.

We recommend starting your heating at 18 degrees, and turning it up 1 degree a day until you find the perfect temperature. This allows you not to waste excess pounds.”

“I want to say thanks and how fantastic the radiators look along with the cast quality and the excellent painting and polishing finish. I now can’t wait to get them installed! Many thanks again for all your help and assistance.”

“Thank you for all your help, we will definitely recommend Paladin to anyone we know who is looking for cast iron radiators and will get in touch when we’re needing radiators for our ground floor.”
